Spread the News: A North Carolina Creamery Seeks a New Cheesemaker-Owner for $875K

Realtor.com

A building with a creamery near the town of Asheville, NC, aims to tempt a potential buyer.

The property is listed for $800,000, a $75,000 drop in price since it first came on the market, with Bethany Behrmann of Engel & Volkers Asheville and the Behrmann-Bahnsen team.

The spread includes a three-bedroom, chink-log cabin built in 1985 and the creamery, which was added in 2008.

The owners of Looking Glass Creamery are taking the vats to their new location, but the walk-in coolers and stainless-steel prep areas will remain. The log cabin, which is being sold furnished, is also available as a short-term vacation rental.

“It’s fully outfitted—pots and pans, linens, everything you need,” Behrmann says.

Behrmann says the sellers are relocating in order to expand their business.

The creamery produced 12,000 pounds of cheese annually and other dairy products for local restaurants and shops, including Williams-Sonoma. The retail store had sales of $200,000.

The property has parking space for about 15 cars, and there’s room to add a bakery, roaster, or brewer, the listing agent suggests.

The town of Asheville is just 12 miles northeast of Fairview.

“It’s a really creative, artsy area,” says Behrmann. “This area will appeal to people looking to reinvent themselves. On a national level, we’re hearing from people interested in the creamery.”

The buyer could continue to rent out the log cabin, and “the creamery could easily be converted to a short-term rental as well,” says Behrmann. There’s already a kitchen, a bath, and an upper-level living area with a gas stove.

The 1.2-acre property comes with a pasture, yard, coop, and outdoor cooking space, including a pizza oven.
